Piers Lane’s recital celebrates the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth. It includes works by the Irish composer John Field who invented the Nocturne and was thus a significant influence on Chopin, and by another great virtuoso pianist, Charles-Valentin Alkan, who once lived next door to Chopin in Paris.
Piers Lane first came to prominence at the inaugural Sydney International Piano Competition in 1977 at which he was named Best Australian Pianist. He has a flourishing international career which has taken him to over 40 countries. His concerto repertoire exceeds 75 works and he has been soloist five times at the BBC Proms. He is also a well-known voice on Radio 3, having written and presented over 100 programmes, including a 54-part series called ‘The Piano’.
