Saturday 1 July 2017, 7.30pm
Tim Kliphuis - violin; Nigel Clark - guitar; Roy Percy - bass
Tim Kliphuis has a unique approach to jazzing up the classics. His classical training and superb technique allow him to the reinvent the works that he loves using the harmonic and rhythmic ear of a jazz enthusiast. As with all the best variations, the foot-tapping immediate results are highly enjoyable, but the original themes themselves may seem to have an extra dimension afterwards. Since he last played at Thaxted, Tim has given the premiere of his own Jazz Violin Concerto with the Omsk Philharmonic, the first concerto ever to feature an improvising soloist with the traditional symphony orchestra line-up. He has also been recording a new album for Sony featuring his brand-new version of Vivaldi’s masterpiece. 'Imagination, flair, …dazzling musicianship’ (Jazz Times).
